The new method was developed at the University of Buffalo (new York, USA). A group of scientists has proposed a method of 3D biometric finger authentication, which provides perfect protection against unauthorized access, using falsification of personal data using dummies or photos. The new method allows, in fact, to identify invisible objects and provide a high degree of protection of personal data. To form a volumetric model of the blood system of the fingertips, photoacoustic tomography is used - an imaging method that combines light and sound. Light from a low-power laser first illuminates the fingers, and when it hits the veins, a sound is created, which is then detected by an ultrasound sensor. The data obtained are used to form a three-dimensional image of the veins. This decision may change the way manufacturers approach smartphone security in the future. It remains only to create a system compact enough to fit in smartphones. | |
