Microsoft unveils affordable Surface Laptop Go
Microsoft today introduced the 12.4-inch Surface Laptop Go, as well as new configurations for the Surface Pro X hybrid laptop computer, which can be based on the new Microsoft SQ2 ARM processor. Both new items will be available on October 13.

The Surface Laptop Go, which the company priced at $549, received a 12.45-inch display with a resolution of 1536 × 1024 pixels and an aspect ratio of 3:2. the New product is based on a Quad-core Intel Core i5-1035G1 processor with integrated Intel UHD graphics and can offer installation of up to 16 GB of LPDDR4X RAM, as well as up to 64 GB of eMMC permanent memory or a solid-state drive of up to 256 GB.

The regular version of the Surface Laptop uses an infrared camera with face recognition. The more affordable version of the Laptop Go is equipped with a fingerprint scanner built into the power button. Unfortunately, the camera's capabilities are limited to 720p HD resolution. This is especially strange against the background of the fact that Microsoft positions the Surface Laptop Go as a device for professionals and students. For comparison, the same affordable Surface Go 2 tablet is equipped with a 5-megapixel camera with support for FHD resolution of 1920 × 1080 pixels.

The new product also includes one USB Type-C and Type-A port, a combined audio Jack and a proprietary Surface Connect connector. The manufacturer claims for the compact Surface Laptop Go support for Wi-Fi 6 (802.11 ax) and Bluetooth 5.0, as well as up to 13 hours of battery life without recharging and support for fast battery charging technology.

The Surface Laptop Go will be offered in a sand, blue, or platinum color scheme. The laptop runs Windows 10 in S Mode, which allows you to run on the system only those applications that are available in the Microsoft Store. At the same time, you can enable normal operation mode, which will allow you to install third-party applications on the system if necessary.

The main distinguishing feature of the updated Surface Pro X hybrid portable system is the use of the new Microsoft SQ2 system-on-a-chip. At the same time, already sold modifications of the Surface Pro X based on the SQ1 processor will remain in the Microsoft range, while new versions will simply take more expensive positions. In addition, the manufacturer has added a new platinum version to the color palette of the cases.

The new chip used in the system, like the SQ1 processor, is based on a chipset developed by Qualcomm. The manufacturer does not indicate this, but there is an assumption that the ancestor of the SQ2 is the second-generation Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx 5G. At the same time, for the Surface Pro X, Microsoft only States support for the LTE (4G) wireless standard.

Surface Pro X is equipped with a 13-inch touch screen with a 3:2 aspect ratio and a resolution of 2880 × 1920 pixels, ready to offer from 8 to 16 GB of LPDDR4X RAM, a solid-state drive of up to 512 GB, two USB 3.2 Type-C connectors, a Surface Connect port and a slot with support for Nano-format SIM cards.
