ASUS has officially introduced the Maximus XI Apex motherboard. The novelty is one of the most advanced ASUS motherboards on the new Intel z390 chipset, and it is focused primarily on overclocking enthusiasts.

To unlock the overclocking potential of the new Coffee Lake Refresh LGA 1151v2 processors, the Maximus XI Apex motherboard has an enhanced power subsystem that includes 16 phases and a pair of 8-pin EPS connectors to power the processor. On the power subsystem installed massive radiators, combined copper heat pipe.

ASUS also notes that the new Maximus XI Apex is better suited for extreme acceleration using liquid nitrogen or helium. In particular, the manufacturer provided the Board with condensate detection technology, which inevitably appears during such overclocking. In case of danger of damage to the Board with liquid, the technology will warn the user. Also on the Board there are power and reset buttons, POST-code indicator, contacts for voltage measurement, and other useful elements for overclocking.

The novelty will be able to distinguish not only in overclocking, but also in overclocking memory modules. According to the manufacturer, the presence of only two slots for DDR4 memory modules together with optimized track design gives the best opportunities for overclocking. Note that despite the presence of only two memory slots, the motherboard Maximus XI Apex is able to accept 64 GB of DDR4 memory in dual-capacity modules (Double-capacity DIMM). The manufacturer claims support of modules with frequency up to 4800 MHz.

Next to the slots for memory modules has a proprietary slot ROG DIMM.2, which is inserted into a special Board with two slots and radiators for them. In addition, there is another slot on the Board, also covered by the radiator. Even for the connection of storage devices Maximus XI Apex has six SATA ports III. The expansion slot set includes three PCI Express 3.0 x16 slots and one PCI Express 3.0 x1 slot.
