Western Digital has announced the first UFS 2.1 flash module on the market, based on 96-layer 3D NAND memory.

The presented product received the designation iNAND MC EU321 EFD. It is designed for use in top-level smartphones, high-performance tablets, as well as portable computers.

It is claimed that the new model provides sequential write speed up to 550 MB/s. This flash drive is perfect for high quality multimedia materials. In addition, the new product can be used in devices with support for mobile communication of the fifth generation (5G), which will provide very high data rates and, therefore, create an increased load on the storage subsystem.

Western Digital has already started trial deliveries of products in and iNAND MC EU321 EFD. The capacity of such modules reaches 256 GB.

Most likely, the first commercial devices equipped with the new UFS 2.1 module will appear on the market next year.
