Co-founder of Oculus VR Brendan Iribe has announced his departure from Facebook. According to the online edition of TechCrunch, Iraib had disagreements with the leadership of the Internet Corporation, in particular, on the development of the direction of virtual reality. According to rumors, Facebook has stopped the development of Rift 2 — the second generation VR headset for PC, which was to replace the original Oculus Rift, released in the summer of 2013, that is more than five years ago.

Brendan Iribe founded Oculus VR in 2012 and continued to lead the project when he came into possession of Facebook. In his Twitter Iribe thanked all with whom he had the opportunity to collaborate during this time, writing that has gained invaluable experience working with so many talented people at Oculus and Facebook. At the same time, he noted that leaving Facebook would be his first real vacation in the last 20 years.

The first such helmet was released in July and was called Oculus Go. A more advanced headset of a similar type Oculus Quest was promised to be presented in 2019.

The press service of the Oculus, too, did not give a definite answer, but made a more encouraging statement. Communications Manager Andrea Schubert told reporters Ars Technica that the company plans a new version of the Rift, but from further details evaded. She explained that it was too early to talk about the device right now. If you believe her words, the details regarding the Rift 2 should appear next year.

The dismissal of Iriba was not the first case of withdrawal from Facebook executives acquired by Internet giant startups. Less than a month ago, plans to leave the company said the founders of Instagram Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger) WhatsApp co-founder Jan Kum left in 2018, at the beginning of 2017, Facebook lost ex-colleague of Iraq's Oculus Palmer Luckey.
