MSI Radeon RX 6900 XT Gaming X Trio

MSI Radeon RX 6900 XT Gaming X Trio
Two months after the start of sales of the flagship graphics accelerator AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT, MSI has finally introduced its non-standard version of the video card as part of the Gaming Trio series. For the first time, this new product was shown by MSI at the end of December. At the same time, the Taiwanese manufacturer announced that due to the shortage of AMD Navi 21 GPUs, it will focus on the release of Radeon graphics cards based on the RDNA 2 architecture in only one proprietary version.

Traditionally, as part of the Gaming Trio series, MSI has introduced two variants of the Radeon RX 6900 XT graphics accelerator — the Radeon RX 6900 XT Gaming Trio and the Radeon RX 6900 XT Gaming X Trio. Externally, both cards are the same and use the already familiar Tri Frozr 2 cooling system, which includes updated Torx 4.0 fans, a massive radiator with heat-conducting tubes, as well as a reinforcing rear metal plate that provides additional heat dissipation.

The difference between the variants lies in the frequency of operation of their GPUs. For the Gaming Trio version, the manufacturer stated the reference values of the gaming and Boost frequencies, which are 2015 and 2250 MHz, respectively. The Radeon RX 6900 XT Gaming X Trio variant received factory GPU overclocking, so its gaming frequency is 2015 MHz, and Boost is up to 2340 MHz.

Both cards are equipped with three 8-pin connectors for additional power, but their stated maximum power consumption does not exceed the reference value of 300 watts. For each version of the Radeon RX 6900 XT Gaming Trio series, MSI recommends using an 850W power supply.

The set of external video interfaces for new products is non-standard. It consists of three DisplayPort 1.4 and one HDMI 2.1. Recall that the reference version of the Radeon RX 6900 XT has only two DisplayPort 1.4, and instead of the third, the card offers a USB Type-C connector.

The manufacturer has promised that both versions of the Radeon RX 6900 XT Gaming Trio series will go on sale in February.
