Micro 4/3 sensors may appear in smartphones around 2025
Inch-sized sensors in smartphones are gradually becoming more popular, although there are currently only a few models available. However, discussions about the next generation of sensors, which will be even larger, are already taking place online. Insider Digital Chat Station stated that such sensors should not be expected in the near future.

A 1.33-inch M43 sensor is indeed ridiculously large, and it won't be appearing anytime soon. Based on the current information about approved projects, it can be said that the main camera of the next generation is still at the 1-inch level, but improved versions, and subsequently the next generation, should have a breakthrough in size.

Therefore, the next generation of flagship smartphones should stick to inch-sized sensors, while their improved versions or smartphones released in later generations may receive new sensors. In other words, we will have to wait at least until the end of 2024, or more likely until 2025, to see such smartphones.

In this case, we are referring to 1.33-inch optical format sensors. It can be said that this is similar to Micro 4/3, as found in corresponding digital cameras. However, Micro 4/3 implies not only the sensor size but also the aspect ratio, and it's not certain whether the smartphone counterpart will have the exact same aspect ratio. Nevertheless, the sensor will be one-third larger than the already large inch-sized sensors in the current generation.

Digital Chat Station has previously been the first to provide accurate specifications and release dates for devices such as the Redmi K30, K40, Xiaomi Mi 10, and Mi 11.
