Lenovo introduced the world's first laptop with a folding screen and 5G modem -ThinkPad X1 Fold
Back in January, at CES 2020, Lenovo showed off an unusual ThinkPad X1 Fold laptop. Its main feature is the use of a large folding in half touch screen, which occupies the entire working area of the new product. It seems that the manufacturer has decided on the final characteristics, and the device will still reach the shelves in the fall of this year.

The unusual compact laptop is based on the Lakefield generation Intel Core i5 processor. The chips in this series are built using a 10-nm manufacturing process and are extremely low in power consumption and are designed for thin mobile devices. They use a multi-layer Foveros 3D layout that combines cores with different architectures. The Intel Core i5 model is equipped with four low-power Tremont cores for multithreaded tasks and one high-performance Sunny Cove core (as in Ice Lake) for single-threaded loads.

The ThinkPad X1 Fold will be available in two versions: one with a large 13.3-inch folding OLED display, and two with a size of 9.6 inches each. The manufacturer indicates that the large screen has a 4:3 aspect ratio, supports a QXGA resolution of 2048 × 1536 pixels, and has a brightness level of 300 CD/m2. It also has support for 95 percent DCI-P3 color coverage and Dolby Vision technology. The laptop does not have a discrete video card, so the Intel UHD graphics subsystem of the 11th generation integrated into the Central processor is responsible for displaying the image on the screen.

The compact laptop is equipped with 8 GB of LPDDR4X RAM, operating at a frequency of 4267 MHz. As a data storage subsystem, the new product will be able to offer An nvme drive in M. 2 format with a capacity of up to 1 TB.

In addition, the ThinkPad X1 Fold received a 5-megapixel RGB + IR HD camera, speakers with support for Dolby Atmos technology, and a 50 WH battery that can provide up to 10.4 hours of operation without recharging. The package includes a fast charger with a USB Type-C connector with a power of 65 watts.

Wireless capabilities for the ThinkPad X1 Fold are provided by support for Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1 standards. in addition, as an option, the new product is ready to offer support for the 5G standard. The size of the laptop when unfolded is 299.4 × 236.0 × 11.5 mm. When folded, it is 158.2 × 236.0 × 27.8 mm. The weight of the laptop is 999 grams. Among other equipment, the ThinkPad X1 Fold offers two USB 3.2 Type-C connectors, as well as a SIM-card slot in the 5G version of the laptop.
