Google has completed support for the Daydream VR platform
With the release of Android 11, support for the Daydream VR virtual reality platform finally stopped. Google announced that the platform's VR applications are not supported in Android 11. Despite the end of sales of Daydream View VR headsets and the end of development of the platform with applications, Google promises to maintain access to content for existing users.

"Daydream VR software is no longer supported. You will still be able to access the service, but it will no longer receive updates," Google said in a statement, which also noted that VR platform apps may not work correctly on devices running Android 11.

It is worth noting that Daydream was one of the two major virtual reality platforms for smartphones, along with the existing Samsung Gear VR. At the launch of Daydream, Google emphasized that virtual reality is becoming part of the Android operating system. However, the developers did not manage to form a broad user base, so a few years after the launch, the VR platform turned into one of Google's low-profile projects.

According to available data, Google developers are currently paying more attention to the implementation of a number of projects using augmented reality technologies that allow adding virtual objects to real space using a smartphone camera. Obviously, the end of support for the Daydream platform will help Facebook strengthen its already strong position in the market segment of VR devices for consumers.
