AMD at CES 2019 introduced a new 6-watt processors for laptops based on Chrome OS, and this time the announcement was not paper and with them the public learned about the first two chromebooks. We are talking about the HP Chromebook 14 and Acer Chromebook 315. Let's talk about the latter in more detail.

This device received a 15.6-inch display with IPS panel and a resolution of 1920 × 1080 (finally, even in the basic system began to put decent screens). There are options with touch support for better compatibility with Android applications. As a processor can be used as a senior model of hybrid AMD A6-9220C, and a simpler A4-9120C.

It is too early to draw conclusions about this system (all the characteristics are unknown), but the stated features are already pleasing. For example, the new Chromebook 315 with AMD processor received twice as much RAM (up to 8 GB) than the similar Acer Chromebook 15 with Intel processor, is endowed with two USB-C ports, two more USB 3.0 ports of conventional format, support for Bluetooth 4.2 and Wi-Fi 802.11 ac. There is a 32-GB eMMC storage, and weight is 1.7 kg. Keyboard with led backlight is only available in the older models with a touchscreen.

The cost of an Acer Chromebook 15 with an Intel Pentium processor starts in the US with $400. In turn, the initial cost of a Chromebook 315 with AMD a chips and integrated Radeon graphics starts at $280, which is a substantial $120 less. At the same time, AMD claims a noticeable superiority in GPU tasks and CPU parity. Acer promises that the Chromebook 315 will go on sale in the US in February, and the EU market will get in April at a price of €349 (perhaps for a more productive model?).
