16-core Loongson processors

At the end of September 2018 at the conference, XI'an Netcom Military-Civilian Integration Forum, which discussed the issues of integration and collaboration of military and civilian specialists from China, appeared information on the plans for the development of architectures and cores Godson of the Chinese company-developer of the Loongson. At the moment the Godson processor 3A3000 and 3B3000 for computing systems for which there is a noticeable demand among the civil and military services, issued by the company STMicroelectronics with the use of 28-nm process for FD-SOI. This Quad-core solution with a frequency of 1.5 GHz for energy-efficient 64-bit architecture GS464E.

In 2019 will be presented Quad-core processors Godson 3A4000 and 3B4000. The process will remain the same — 28nm as the manufacturer. Solution architecture will be updated to version GS464V. About innovations is not reported. Previously, for example, moving from GS464 to GS464E, the number of compute pipelines in the kernel was increased from 9 to 12. Therefore, we can expect significant innovations from GS464V. At least, the clock frequency of processors promise to raise to 2 GHz.

Finally, in 2020, Loongson will release 16nm 3c5000 processors. The architecture will remain the same-GS464V, but the number of computing cores will increase to 16 pieces, and the frequency will grow to 2.5 GHz. 3c5000 processors will be produced using 16-nm process technology (FinFET). This means that Loongson will break up with STMicroelectronics and switch to TSMC for service. Also, the developer will go from FD-SOI plates to monolithic silicon plates.
